    About

Hi, my name is Claire and The Real Meal Deal has been my labour of love. It’s also unlike any other food blog. Here’s why.

    The Why?

Years ago, when I began food writing, I became intrigued by how what we eat impacts climate change and global food poverty. I wanted to do better and to help and inspire others to do the same. More and more of us are becoming aware of the growing importance of living sustainably and food is a big part of that. I designed The Real Meal Deal specifically to tackle all the issues together in one place in an easy and adaptable way. As a Mum of three, I also get that busyness is an issue and can be a barrier to us making those necessary changes. Like me, you probably never have time to lay out all your ingredients in little white bowls and prepare a meal totally undisturbed, (can you imagine!) That doesn’t mean however, that we can’t step up and make a difference to climate change, and that is so much more important than little white bowls.

    The What

The Zero Waste Chef, Anne-Marie Bonneau says

"We don't need a handful of people doing zero waste perfectly. We need millions of people doing it imperfectly"

That’s precisely where I’m at. Living life sustainably is a journey, taking one day at a time. The important thing is that we don’t give up. My blog is all about trying to make that journey as easy as possible. When it comes to writing recipes, my approach is always ‘What’s simple but still tastes good?’ There are no weird ingredients, nothing you’ll buy and only use once and nothing that is in any way complicated. Just easy family- friendly stuff we can all manage.

    The How

I want to help you on your sustainability journey. I’ll help you to eat in season, choose ingredients that have a lower impact on the environment and reduce your food waste. If you can, try and include at least one vegetarian dish a week and swap something in your shopping basket for the Fairtrade version. I’ll also share with you some other tips I’ve learnt along the way around living a more sustainable lifestyle.

Climate change is the biggest challenge of our times, so I’m really pleased you’re here. I hope you and your family enjoy making a difference and enjoy some good cooking too!
